Gobblerfest is a great way for students to meet each other, explore common interests, and become a part of the Virginia Tech community. Student organizations, businesses, non-profit organizations, and Virginia Tech departments offer food, games, free giveaways, and information at booths around the Virginia Tech Drillfield.

Creating Internship Awareness

Follow My Vote offers internships every semester. We are currently taking applications on our website and we wanted to make sure all Virginia Tech students were aware of these opportunities. Our marketing internship is our most popular internship. We teach interns how the world of digital media works. Interns build their skills learning branding techniques and marketing software used by companies and agencies around the world.  Follow My Vote internships are a great way to prove value and earn a full time position at the company.

Blockchain Education

Follow My Vote was recently featured in Forbes for pioneering advancements in the voting industry with blockchain technology. We can now use software to safeguard against vote rigging and give voters the ability to verify that their vote was correctly cast.

Students welcomed our knowledge of blockchain technology and eagerly asked questions about how our voting software works.

The Raffle

Towards the end of the event, Follow My Vote held a raffle for some Hokie gear and Follow My Vote t-shirts. Here are the winners!

We had a great time at Virginia Tech’s Gobblerfest and we would highly suggest local businesses join us next year. Students held all sorts of booths for different clubs. The Follow My Vote team is always eager to attend entrepreneurship events in our area. We seek to support local efforts that encourage innovation, especially when it comes to inspiring students. We were quite impressed by the ideas presented by students. Some of the business concepts really grabbed at our heart strings, while others focused on solving specific pain points for consumers.

The grand prize of $15,000 in scholarships was awarded to Park and Diamond, Inc., which included team members Jordan Klein and David Hall. Their prize package included the $5,000 Plastics One Advanced Manufacturing Award for the most outstanding tangible product. In addition, they were awarded another $10,000 in scholarship assistance and summer workspace at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. Park and Diamond’s mission is simple: to disrupt the cycling industry with revolutionary products to protect both avid cyclists and commuters. Park and Diamond will also advance to the VT KnowledgeWorks Global Student Entrepreneurship Challenge on August 18, 2016, where they will compete on a world stage as teams pitch their business ideas for a $25,000 grand prize.

Other awards given included the Information Technology Award for the most outstanding intangible product or service, and the People’s Choice award. Both awards entitled the winner to $5,000 in scholarships.  The winner of the outstanding intangible product was Haven, presented by Emily Wills, Kirby Emerson, Ruby Kang, and Reed Koser.

Haven’s goal is to provide peace of mind through wearable technology and a distinct understanding of their market combined with human nature. Haven is inconspicuous and fashion-forward, while providing a faster connection to responders.

Yard Mapper walked away with the People’s Choice award. Yard Mapper was presented by team members David Evans and Patrick Acker.

Yard Mapper tracks trailers and shipping containers at distribution centers significantly reducing the time required to locate trailers while also reducing related penalty fees. The system does not require any extensive infrastructure (including Wi-Fi) and can be installed in a matter of hours.

We would like to congratulate the winners of the Global Entrepreneurship Challenge Semifinals and recognize the other participating teams, who also had fantastic business ideas. These teams were Biological Systems and Solids, Glide Robotics, iWaste, and Leva.

We started off Gobblerfest 2015 by getting people to join our supporters list and giving away  Follow My Vote T-shirts!  Students were genuinely exited about our online voting solution. They were happy to hear that we want students to use our voting software for all sorts of campus elections, especially for the Student Government Association. If you are a Virginia Tech Student consider signing this petition for the SGA to use an honest and accurate online voting system!  If you’re not a Tech student, but want your school to use our online voting platform, let us know.

One of the best parts of Gobblerfest 2015 was getting on the radio! Follow My Vote Founder and CEO, Adam Kaleb Ernest was able to get on 105.3 The Bear. 105.3 is a local rock radio station that was covering Gobblerfest 2015. Adam was able to talk about Follow My Vote and the future of online voting. The disc jokey was all about what we are doing at Follow My Vote and expressed his excitement on air for secure and transparent online voting!

Check out the line we had at our booth! Gobblerfest 2015 was a fantastic event. We had a lot of fun interacting with students. We even brought our voting system demo to show off. You can see Follow My Vote CTO, Nathan Hourt demoing the software for students in the picture below.

It was unfortunate but Gobblerfest 2015 ended a bit early due to inclement weather. We apologize if you were planning on swinging by our booth near the end of the event. Even though our parade got rained on, the event was still a great success with many more online voting supporters and students informed about our online voting technology.

Follow My Vote Founder and CEO, Adam Kaleb Ernest, was the main speaker for the event. We used Follow My Vote as an example for starting a business, choosing a team, and finding your first customers. Students and members of the fraternity responded very well to presentation, asking questions about our technology and use cases, making for a extremely engaging event.

We are ecstatic to have Delta Sigma Pi at Virginia Tech be one of the first organizations to use our online end to end verifiable voting system. This is what their president had to say:

This event this year will be held on the Virginia Tech Drillfield on September 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Virginia Tech’s Gobblerfest has been a huge success for Follow My Vote. This will be our third year attending!  We have blog posts covering our previous appearances (Gobblerfest 2014 and Gobblerfest 2013) that are worth reading.

We have many goals this year at Virginia Tech’s Gobblerfest. We plan to engage with students and invite them to join our grassroots movement for online voting! Here are a few of the items we will be sharing with students! Let us know what you think in the comment section and make sure to check our booth out if you’re in Blacksburg.

In preparation, we have designed a page on our site specifically for Hokies. Check out why we think Virginia Tech students should join our cause!

At Follow My Vote, we believe that petitions are a strong force for effective change. Petitioning the SGA at Virginia Tech could be a huge stepping stone for online voting technology and put Virginia Tech on the map for being on the forefront of new technology in the voting industry.

If you are still not convinced you need to swing by, we will be giving out Follow My Vote T-shits and koozies! And if your into raffles, get excited! Because we will be raffling off several Virginia Tech T-shirts! (the raffle winners will be announced at 7:00 p.m. at our booth)

We registered a ton of users for our mobile app that should hit the major app markets this December! Those who registered were given a free Follow My Vote Ping Pong Ball and were offered a chance to win other Follow My Vote swag by playing the ping pong toss game at our Gobblerfest booth.

CONGRATS to all those that WON BIG and took home some cool Follow My Vote swag!!

We also held a raffle and gave out a bunch of prizes, including a Virginia Tech Cornhole game with custom made Virginia Tech Cornhole Bean Bags and even a much sought after leather futon.
