 Registering to Vote in Ohio

Qualifications
If you are wanting to vote in the state of Ohio, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be at least 18 years old before the next general election
  • You have been a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days before the election you’re wanting to vote in
  • You are not in jail or prison for a felony offense
  • You’ve not been declared incompetent
  • You aren’t disenfranchised on a permanent basis for violating election laws

Where and How to Register
There are two ways to register to vote in the state of Ohio — either in person or by mail.  Regardless of the way that you choose to register, you will need to fill out an Ohio Voter’s Registration form, which can be downloaded, printed and then filled out.  The Secretary of State’s office can also mail you a form if you don’t have access to a computer and printer to print one out.  Public libraries, vocational schools and several other entities can also provide you with a form.  Whether you mail in your voter registration form or drop it off in person, it needs to be submitted at least 30 days before the election you are wanting to vote.
Unfortunately, the state of Ohio does not provide you with a way to register to vote using the Internet.  You can of course download the registration form, but you cannot submit it online.  And you can also use the Secretary of State’s office website to perform a voter registration search, which allows you to check if your registration has been approved and at which precinct you’re supposed to vote.
On Election Day, you will need to cast your ballot at the precinct you were previously informed to vote at.  If you are unaware of where to vote at, you should use the Secretary of State’s website to check your voting status.  When casting your vote, you’ll need to do so between the hours of 6:30 am and 7:30 pm.  And don’t forget to bring a valid form of ID.  Without an ID, you will not be allowed to cast your votes.
Make Sure Your Vote Counts
One of the best ways to make sure that your vote counts is by supporting Follow My Vote’s online voting platform.  This open source voting platform is designed around security, convenience, and most importantly, transparency.  Using the security of blockchain technology and elliptic curve cryptography, Follow My Vote  intends to ensure that democracy thrives through honest and verifiable elections worldwide.[/text_output]
