Where and How to Register
The two easiest ways to register to vote in New York are online and in person. You’ll need to fill out an application and submit it according to New York’s specific deadlines. Any voter registration center will be able to help you with the registration process. If you prefer, however, you can download the form online and mail it in. Or you can call any voter registration hotline and have them mail you an application. Additionally, you can use this site to register online.
If you’re having difficulty locating a voter registration center, use this helpful link to find one near you. You can visit the center, receive answers for any questions that you have, fill out the application and submit it all at the same time. Within only a few days, if you have been approved, you’ll receive confirmation by postal mail that you are registered to vote.
Before it becomes time to vote, you’ll need to decide if you’re going to show up to the polls or submit an absentee slip. If you’re going to do the latter, you’ll need to apply for absentee form as well as provide proof why you are unable to come to the polls on election day. In order for an absentee vote to count, it must be mailed in at least seven days before the election takes place. If you prefer to turn it in by hand, you’ll need to submit to your county board of election at least one day prior to the election.
